Introduction to the GDPR course

MAKING SENSE OF GDPR WITH CHESS

•The General Data Protection Regulation replaces the current Data Protection Act 1998.

•The existing data privacy legislation was drafted in 1995. The cultural, technological and social differences in the UK have changed significantly since the act was introduced.
•The Information Commissioners Office [ICO] have been appointed by the government to oversee data privacy across the UK
•The ICO will prosecute businesses and individuals should they bare witness to a breach of the GDPR either through a disclosure or complaint.
•Business fines are in the range of: 2% - 4% of turnover, Up to £10,000 for individuals
•For serious data breaches, the ICO can effectively close a business either through prosecution or indirectly when the breach is communicated publicly – causing irreparable brand damage.
